MV Rushcutter

Following decommissioning, Rushcutter was sold to a private company with the view to expand their services.

Rushcutter was renamed "Mein Hunter" and quoted from archives:

"The Mein Hunter is a 31-metre ex-Navy Catamaran in full ocean survey with lifting winch. Mein Hunter is stationed in Sydney, Australia and features a large working deck space area, a moon pool, dynamic positioning, shottle propulsion and cruises and a cruisespeed of ten knots.

Professional services include:

Hydrographic, side scan and sub-bottom profiling

Survey, Search and Recovery

ROV and Diving Services

Underwater Video Mapping and Photography"

The company was owned by a well known marine operator Capt Gerry Steenbuck who added Rushcutter as part of his operation which included the charter vessel "Zane Grey"

We are reliably informed that Gerry loved his little "Mine Hunter" and had a number of successes with her.

Unfortunately Gerry soon found out that Rushcutters electrical systems were not "standard" and some interesting attempts were made to make things more user friendly which again had limited success.

Following Gerrys death in August 2009, Rushcutter was sold to another marine salvage operator who had a different purpose in mind.

This was unsuccessful.

The obvious "visible" differences include:

A: The removal of the containerised mine warfare operating "room", located at bridge level aft and between the two exhausts (containerised).

B: Installation of two fwd reinforced opening windows for the galley/mess area

C: Installation of a number of clear reinforced windows in both hulls for the separate accommodation areas

D: Removal of all mine warfare equipment including sonar, ROVs etc

Less obvious changes include.

A: A small diesel powered generator hard wired into the main switchboard to allow limited "domestic power" without having to keep one of the main engines running or maintain a shore power connection (3 phase).

B: Adding a electric starter motor for the starboard engine to make starting easier. NB both engines have hydraulic starters and in service these were used..ie the main units were not fitted with electric starters

Now she is being refurbished for promotion and educational use, a purpose that suits her well.
