Ships Blog
We are still at it..
Apologies for the lack of updates.. our admin saint has been feeling a little under the weather so less of a workload was warranted.
However yet again we are facing more "winter" madness and thus more wet weather...slowing things down a little
Today however was productive where crews were hard at it removing yet more rubbish not relevant to the ship.
Interest is growing and we are inspecting a new wharf opportunity later in the week
Weather Delays Again..
It really is Winter...
Again tho it cannot be helped the present weather pattern is not making for a pleasant experience for crew.
Next week is forecast to allow a break and so we will be pushing forward.
A Few FB images
A quick update as Rushcutters FB page is slowly gaining momentum.
Many contributions are supplied from ex RAN crews who have actually served on both Rushcutter and Shoalwater..
It appears that blowing things up was quite spectacular at times...
Getting Ready For More Wet..
Just a snippet from Rushcutters Facebook Page ...
The Weather Gods Are Not Happy
Coming into winter, yet again we are faced with problematic wet weather and so work will slow a little.
Rushcutter is safe and slowly making progress.
Small Thoughts
For the next day or two things will slow a little whilst maintaining the ships cleaning and security schedule.
A number of people and organisations have indicated interest in making use of the ship for promotional exposure and we are looking at possibilities working within established guidelines.
Modifications Don't Always Work..
This old generator was installed with the "attempted" to hard wire power into the main switchboards and thence provide power to the ship without the need to run the main engines / alternators and avoid the need to burn over 50 litres of fuel per hour.
Unfortunately the designed and operational voltage is 440V 60 Hertz 3 phase..and this little unit is actually 415 Volts 50 Hertz..with only a small capacity...still an interesting attempt..it worked half the time am told however at present it is not in use.
Returning To "Design"
This ship was never designed or wired to have any Auxillary generators or "systems"..and the official material clearly indicates that.
Powerful generators with step down transformers to cater the following voltage..
440 volts main...115 Volts most equipment, minimal 240 plus AC. 24v DC
Rushcutter was never equipped with a small aux alternator, usually at berth she was supplied with shore based power via a power cable.
Unfortunately in "civilian" life these systems are not as designed for this ship and so many efforts were made to "make things user friendly".. unfortunately this has obviously caused significant problems which are now slowly being rectified.
Things are improving..and being returned to "normal" making her usable again however it is a process .
Nicer Weather
Finally we are "seeing" a smaller break in the weather tho the electrical gremlins are forever persistent.
The ships tender performance has now been improved with a more powerful outboard.. slowly but surely it is coming together.
The weather gods are at it again .
Another slow day, hiding inside so not much to report...
Things are progressing slowly however with removal of copious amounts of old rubbish..not relevant to the ship.
New AGM batteries fitted to the 24v system now makes it easier to deal with the constant electrical gremlins..one thing at a time ..
Picture is taken yesterday looking at the bridge from deck level
The things you "see"
This little "gem" is behind a wardrobe door in the Senior Sailers Mess..
Apparently Rushcutter was immortalized in stickers..
Better Weather...
More productive day. Apologies for the bad camera re the video of the machinery room..however hopefully it can give ppl a bit of an idea as to how complex this ship is..
